The Lead Cloud Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting, managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of our cloud and infrastructure environment consisting of servers, storage, backups, enterprise software and virtualized infrastructure within our datacenter, cloud deployments and remote office locations. The person in this role must reside in the Metropolitan Chicago area in Illinois or Wisconsin and be willing to travel into the Milwaukee, Wisconsin office on a periodic basis.
RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:
Implements organization’s goals, may provide input into strategic goals for the IT infrastructure environment. Conducts research, evaluates data, and reports on findings, supporting the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and programs. Has familiarity with the IT budget, may provide input into spending decisions, particularly as pertains to vendors, systems, and projects. Typically works on projects and initiatives that span 12 months – 2 years.
The Cloud Systems Engineer will support, manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of our cloud and infrastructure environment consisting of servers, storage, backups, enterprise software and virtualized infrastructure within our datacenter, cloud deployments and remote office locations. The Cloud System Engineer troubleshoots a wide array of complex system issues to ensure the security and integrity of our systems and data while meeting industry best practices. The Cloud System Engineer also accepts ownership for various projects and implements initiative and assists in the design and planning of cloud and infrastructure projects, while providing tier two/three support for other engineers and support team members.

6. Plan, and implement server infrastructure and cloud technology stack
7. Coordinate technical reviews with vendors and engineering staff in performing system modeling, capacity planning, system performance, manageability and scalability
8. Translates business requirements into code and documentation while managing the life-cycle and communication for assigned projects.
9. Responsible for ensuring cloud security, cloud monitoring, and disaster recovery of cloud deployments.
10. Plans, prioritizes, and manages projects; prioritizes tasks to ensure that the team’s overall resources are used effectively and that project deadlines are met.
11. Conducts performance tuning, problem resolution, storage administration, security administration, capacity planning, policy administration, change management, disaster recovery, backups, and systems analysis.
12. Troubleshoots Active Directory (AD) and Azure Active Directory (AAD)
13. Test and deploy Windows Updates and remediation efforts
14. Stays informed of emerging cloud technologies and evaluates the value to the organization’s operations.
15. Maintain and standardize firmware deployments for all infrastructure hardware
16. Automate our operational processes as needed, with accuracy and in compliance with our security requirements.
17. Design, implement and maintain IAAS, PAAS and SAAS solutions.
18. Act as Tier 3 or 4 Support, including On-Call responsibilities.
19. Responsible for all other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree or experience equivalency, and a minimum of 4 years’ experience.
2. Strong knowledge of or certification in AWS, GCP or Azure preferred
3. Strong in-depth knowledge of system, network and data center operations
4. Ability to manage projects and other team member responsibilities in a project
5. Experience with estimating Azure and AWS usage costs and identifying operational cost control mechanisms
6. Thorough understanding of system and infrastructure management in the Azure Cloud environment (Windows servers, firewalls, load balancers, hypervisors, storage, monitoring, security, etc.)
7. Experience with programming and scripting languages: Powershell, Python
8. Knowledgeable in System Monitoring and Remediation using tools
9. Experience with orchestration tools a plus
