As an Environmental Field Technician (Field Based), you’ll be on the front lines of post‑construction monitoring programs—collecting critical data that helps ensure responsible wind energy development.
ERM is hiring for a project-based, part-time (minimum 30 hours per week), limited-term role based in Medicine Hat, AB, Canada, with a duration of 8 months and potential extension. Full training will be provided for all client‑specific and site‑specific safety, security, sampling, and inspection procedures, making this an ideal role for professionals looking to build or strengthen their field-based environmental career.

What You’ll Bring:
Required
0–3 years of field experience
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or a related field
Driver’s License Required: This position requires a valid driver’s license and/or the ability to operate a rental truck due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area
Ability to walk long distances and carry heavy field equipment in outdoor environments
Strong observational and organizational skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with ERM and client staff
Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, for communication and preparation of inspection documentation
This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship
Preferred
Experience recording detailed technical data in a field environment
Familiarity with environmental field surveys or monitoring programs
Physical capability for long field days traveling on foot in uneven terrain
Key Responsibilities:
Complete post‑construction bird and bat mortality monitoring and wildlife surveys
Collect, organize, and manage field data and related information
Drive to field sites and work independently on‑site
Promote safety awareness and the safe performance of work at all times
Contribute to a positive, professional, and collaborative field culture
Work Schedule & Field Expectations:
Three to five days per week in the field, generally during daytime hours
Daily hours and shift duration vary by site and workload, up to 12‑hour days
Travel and on‑site work comprise the majority of time
Accommodations coordinated near Medicine Hat for overnight field shifts
Workdays scheduled monthly in advance to maintain survey consistency
Potential for occasional weekend and holiday field shifts

Pay Transparency:
For the Environmental Field Technician (Field Based) position, we anticipate the hourly pay of $30.29 – $34.60, limited-term, non-exempt. An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/Flexforce employees are NOT bonus eligible).
