Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
Reporting to Manager, Accounting Operations (Seaspan Shipyards), the Intern, Finance will support in delivering weekly and monthly financial capital reports at Seaspan Shipyards. This position collaborates with teams across operating divisions to consolidate financial data for the reports and analyze results. The ability to clearly communicate the results, very strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities are essential for this role.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 115 Carrie Cates Court, North Vancouver.
What you’ll do
Assist in the preparation of internal operational financial reports and analysis.
Assist in the quarterly forecasting and annual budgeting processes.
Support fixed asset records data collection and reconciliation between systems.
Help to develop and improve detailed process and procedure for capital projects management.
Perform additional ad-hoc analysis and other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring
Enrollment in a Finance or Accounting degree program.
1-2 years of experience in a business/financial analysis or project management role, with preference to candidates with experience working in a complex multi-business environment.
Work well under pressure and can prioritize multiple tasks to meet aggressive deadlines.
Very strong attention to detail, critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Excellent oral and written communication with ability to communicate with others with tact and diplomacy.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
