Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The Intern, Intellectual Property & Contract Compliance will gain valuable experience in developing processes, tools, and resources that will be applied across Vancouver Shipyards’ (VSY) shipbuilding programs. The Intern will be directly involved with projects relating to VSY’s Intellectual Property strategy, Contractual Compliance, as well as Risk mitigation initiatives amongst other exposures. This position is an outstanding opportunity to improve your skills by working closely with Senior Specialists and receiving oversight from the Director.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What you’ll do
Assist with developing a contractual compliance matrix.
Assist with implementing an intellectual property remediation project.
Supervising and reviewing intellectual property statements on VSY deliverables.
Supervising VSY deliverables and updating their intellectual property status.
Assist with preparation of training materials, scheduling training sessions, and associated meetings.
Tracking of files and maintaining accurate records.
Assist in taking notes in risk identification and actions planning sessions with collaborators.
Coordinate with stakeholders to upgrade risk and opportunity registers for multiple projects.
Follow-up on Risk action plans in close proximity.
Supports weekly and monthly Risk review process for the monitoring, trending, variance analysis, forecasting and action tracking.
What you’ll bring
Enrollment in 3rd or 4th year of a relevant business, science, pre-law, or engineering degree program required.
Must be able to secure a Canadian Government (CISD) Personal Security Clearance.
Ability to communicate optimally and efficiently, both in writing and in person.
Excellent digital literacy including Excel/Word/PowerPoint.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solve.
Proven initiative, creativity, and integrity.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Good judgment and reasoning skills.
Ability to conduct research on the internet and elsewhere (internal servers).

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
