Itinerant Teacher (K-12) Full Time

Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre requires two temporary full-time Itinerant Teachers (K-12). The campus location will be based on the successful candidate’s principal residence. The position will commence on September 8th, 2026 and end on June 25th, 2027.

Sask DLC is a Treasury Board Crown Corporation, created to deliver high-quality and equitable online learning programs to students across the province. Sask DLC’s head office is located in Kenaston, with an administrative office in Regina, and regional campuses located in Estevan, Kenaston, La Ronge, Moose Jaw, Meadow Lake, Nipawin, Prince Albert, Regina, Saskatoon, Swift Current and Yorkton.

Sask DLC Itinerant Teachers deliver high-quality instruction and assessment for students in kindergarten to Grade 12 courses. This temporary full-time 1.0 FTE position is required for teacher absences during the instructional day and is based in a Sask DLC Campus. It involves the daily delivery of Saskatchewan curriculum through both synchronous and asynchronous learning models as assigned by Campus Administration. Online Itinerant Teachers address elementary and/or high school curricula, possess a strong understanding of digital platforms such as Moodle and Microsoft Teams, and are committed to fostering an inclusive and engaging online learning environment. The Online Itinerant Teacher will also collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and administration to address daily teacher absences in all campus locations within Sask DLC.
Primary Responsibilities
Academics

Curriculum and Planning:

• Sask DLC uses a centralized model for course development, and content can be adapted for students aligned with the adaptive dimension.
• Provide high-quality synchronous and asynchronous program delivery to students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 using the centralized course content aligned with the Saskatchewan curriculum, engaging lessons and activities, formative and summative assessment, and meaningful resources.
• Integrate First Nation and Metis content, world views, ways of knowing and culture within the curriculum outcomes and program delivery.
• Ensure students understand the learning outcomes and they are easily identifiable in lessons and/or assignments.

Instruction and Assessment

• Teach engaging and effective online lessons, activities, and assignments tailored to individual student needs and using the adaptive dimension where applicable.
• Implement instructional strategies that promote student engagement, learning, and critical thinking.
• Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative assessments.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance.

Leadership

• Utilize Moodle, Microsoft Teams, and other approved Sask DLC software to manage course content, deliver lessons, and communicate with students and colleagues.
• Troubleshoot basic technical issues and provide support to students and parents as needed.
• Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with educational trends, technology, and best practices.
• Collaborate with STF peers to improve instructional methods and contribute to professional learning networks. Work collaboratively with colleagues in learning teams to plan, develop, and refine curriculum and teaching strategies.
• Share resources, ideas, and strategies to enhance the overall effectiveness of the online program.

Culture

Classroom

• Establish clear expectations for online learning and behavior, ensuring students remain engaged, respectful, and productive in the virtual classroom.
• Monitor and support student participation and engagement in the online learning environment.
• Address disruption to the learning environment in a respectful, confidential, and concise manner.

Outside Classroom

• Communicate with parents and guardians about student progress, concerns, and next steps for learning.
• Respond promptly to inquiries and foster a positive and supportive relationship with families.
• Foster an inclusive, respectful, and culturally responsive learning environment for all students.

Additional Non-replacement Duties (no teacher absences requiring backfill)

Instructional Support

• Provide small group or one on one intervention or co-teach large group with Sask DLC K-9 Classroom teachers
• Provide small group instruction to students assigned to Sask DLC Student Support Teachers

Student Support

• Relieve Sask DLC Synchronous teachers to support attendance and assignment completion
• Support onboarding and transitions of new students to Sask DLC
• Assist EAL students with targeted language practice and/or additional tutorial sessions

Assessment Support

• Grading assignments, exams, or projects with Sask DLC teachers
• Facilitate reading or numeracy assessments: K-3 literacy and writing screening tools such as Amplify and numeracy assessments such as Basic Concepts of Math
• Proctor exams for full-time students and supervise academic integrity (Artificial Intelligence checks)

Leadership and Collaboration

• Temporary release time for identified teachers
• Mentor new teachers and support identified Sask DLC best practices

• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues in a remote context.
• Passion for fostering inclusive, culturally relevant learning experiences for all students.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent teaching certification in Saskatchewan.
• Valid Saskatchewan teaching certificate with Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board (SPTRB) and membership with the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation (STF).

Employment Conditions

• Office environment/setting.
• Typical core office hours (8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) Monday to Friday.
• Travel as required.
